Praise for Murphy’s Mission – Editorial Reviews:

"I've known Colin Murphy for almost 30 years, and Sally Mears' biography captures him perfectly. It's full of proper football stories in the real football world. Both funny and serious, the book shows what a good football man will do to overcome any situation. I loved reading it."
Peter Taylor
Former manager of England U21s, Leicester City, Hull City, and Southend United.
"Colin Murphy, "the bard of Lincoln" with his own command of English was unique, and author Sally Mears captures his journey brilliantly in this well researched book."
David Pleat
Sports commentator and former manager of Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City, and Luton Town.
"The author has captured Colin so well. The tireless discoverer of talented young players, the builder of highly successful sides, the eccentric wordsmith, the wonderfully engaging man. As a Lincoln supporter, Murphy's Mission is both an opportunity to reminisce about his two exciting periods at the club , and a chance to learn more about his time spent elsewhere. Imps who were there will love it; those who weren't will want to discover the story of one of Lincoln's greatest ever managers."
Roger Bates
"I thoroughly enjoyed this book, which is a very informative and entertaining read. It captures the essence of Colin Murphy ... a passionate football man, always ready to take on a challenge and who invariably made a real difference ... his story and journey is a fascinating one, which Sally has managed to tell in an engaging way, clearly helped by her obvious affection for the man she calls "Murph"."

A trip down memory lane!

From reading his programmes in the good old days, this has brought back fantastic memories! Would very highly recommend to others, a must read for fans old and new.

Cracking read

Brilliant, being a Lincoln supporter during the 70s and 80s, this rekindled some cracking memories.

Insightful portrayal of a life in management

Murphy had the ability to manage at the highest levels but was something of a journeyman. A great character, his programme notes were second to none. This book is one you won’t want to put down.

What a great read

Relived some of the memories for me. And learned so much more about the man.

For those of us who knew “Murph” this is an exceptional book. Sally Mears has captured the expertise, energy and eccentricity of Colin wonderfully. Very accurate, balanced, and always funny! Great read. Robin Russell.

Truly brilliant

This is a great book, I finished it in a week. Sally has done a magnificent job of capturing the character of Mr Colin, and I look forward to her next project. Anyone who knows Colin Murphy will love this book, just as we all love him. Loved it from start to finish.

Murphy’s Mission is a great insight into a capricious character

This book reminds me of why I love, in particular, lower league football. The PL may have changed the game, but eccentricity, success and mostly failure exist in the lower leagues. A well researched and written book that brought back memories of Colin Murphy and my team Southend in the 80s and 90s and in many ways how little has changed today. Murphy himself a fascinating character (if you like lower league football minutiae). Was he a genius, a capricious, disloyal employee or just a naughty little boy? Read it and decide.
